How Many New Complaints?

2007

 

  • 6,634 complaints of discrimination.
  • 311 of those complaints were in Binghamton alone.
    The remaining complaints were all in New York State.
  • As the new year of 2008 began, discrimination complaints were registered at 19 as of January 31, 2008. In just one month, there were 19 people that became a statistic of discrimination.

 

As of January 31, 2008, there were 612 discrimination complaints in New York State.

2007

 

  • 2,509 or 42% of the cases take 181 days or less
  • 1,573 or 26% of the cases take 181 days – 365 days
  • 1,248 or 21% of the cases take 1–2 years
  • 400 or 7% of the cases take 2-3 years
  • 97 or 2% of the cases take 3-4 years
  • 36 or 1% of the cases take 4-5 years
  • 91 or 2% of the cases take over 5 years


Total for 2007 was 5,954 discrimination complaint results.

 

Note – the gap of 680 can be ongoing cases or cases that dropped out and miscellaneous.


2008

As of January 31, 2008 details as follows:

 

  • 303 or 48% of the cases take 181 days or less
  • 141 or 22% of the cases take 181 days - 365 days
  • 130 or 21% of the cases take 1-2 years
  • 40 or 6% of the cases take 2-3 years
  • 9 or 1% of the cases take 3-4 years
  • 4 or 1% of the cases take 4-5 years
  • 2 or 0% of the cases take over 5 years

 

Total of New Complaints up to January 31, 2008 was 629

  • 10,455 or 89% of the cases were Employment
  • 977 or 8% of the cases were Housing
  • 373 or 3% of the cases were Public Accommodation
  • 221 or 2% of the cases were other

 

Total New York State discrimination complaints for 2007 were 12,026


As of January 31, 2008 details as follows:

 

  • 5,953 or 89% of the cases were Employment
  • 483 or 7% of the cases were Housing
  • 203 or 3% of the cases were Public Accommodation
  • 127 or 2% of the cases were other
